Richardson climbs in polls.

10: Percentage points earned by Bill Richardson in two recent polls in Iowa and New Hampshire. According to a May 20 poll in The Des Moines Register, Richardson was favored by 10 percent of polled voters to be the Democratic candidate for president. The Guv also scored 10 percent in the latest Zogby poll in New Hampshire. The polls represent the first time Richardson has broken the double-digit barrier in any of the four early primary/caucus states since announcing his candidacy.

33: The number of official endorsements Richardson received from May 14-21 after scoring only one the previous week. The endorsements were spread over three states (Texas, Georgia and Arkansas) and ranged in prominence from US congressmen and local Democratic Party leaders to activists and small-town mayors. The endorsements coincided with the Richardson campaign’s unveiling of BR4P steering committees in the three aforementioned states.

5: Number of states (plus Washington, DC) Richardson visited during a hectic week of campaigning May 14-21. The governor started out his blitzkrieg bop around the country on May 14 for a “town hall meeting” with Google employees in California. The governor then hit up Oregon, DC, Louisiana, Nebraska and Iowa before returning to California to officially announce his bid for the presidency on May 21 in Los Angeles.

2020: The year Richardson has set as a benchmark for increasing national alternative energy projects and energy efficiency while reducing oil dependency and greenhouse gas emissions. The benchmark was part of the “Energy and Climate Policy Plan” the governor unveiled on May 17 in Washington, DC. Among other things, Richardson’s plan would increase fuel economy standards to 50 miles a gallon and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 20 percent by 2020. No word on whether the plan includes a provision to hire Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown of Back to the Future fame to build a national fleet of flying DeLoreans.
