CIRCLE OF STORIES: From the Four Directions
Date: September 14, 2007 Tipton Hall; Length: 1 hr. 45 min.

Stories can bind cultures together or rip them apart. In this evening of Native American storytelling, hosted by Melissa Nelson (Turtle Mountain Chippewa), founder of The Cultural Conservancy, bridges will be built between diverse tribes, storytellers and audience members. The event features native storytellers from each of the four directions; enjoy tales from Lakota, Dakota, Narragansett, Dineh (Navajo) and Chemehuevi tribes; learn about cooking spirits, sacred medicines, and the healing powers of Mother Earth; leave feeling inspired and more connected to each other and the world. Based on their PBS website, Circle of Stories is produced by CSF faculty members and filmmakers Hank Rogerson and Jilann Spitzmiller of Philomath Films, funded by ITVS, and produced with The Cultural Conservancy. The event is co-sponsored by the Institute of American Indian Arts, with support from CSF's Southwest Studies Department.
