YearlyKos attendees take on the governor.

Al Gore may have invented the Internet, but it’s prospective presidential candidates like Gov. Bill Richardson who are trying to use it to change their URL, if

not their political fortunes, to www.whitehouse.gov.

Which is why Richardson paid a visit to YearlyKos—a national convention of liberal-minded political bloggers sponsored by DailyKos.com—on June 9 in Las Vegas, Nev. Richardson, who came to the convention to address energy issues, wasn’t alone. Oval Office hopefuls like former Virginia governor Mark Warner, Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack and Gen. Wesley Clark were also on hand to double-click on the 1,000 or so bloggers in attendance.

Here’s what the bloggers had to say about Richardson’s performance:

“…Richardson admitted that he is still relatively new to the phenomenon of blogging, but like any good politician, he said he is taking steps to remedy that…” —“The Fix” with Chris Cillizza, The Washington Post

“8:30 am: Breakfast with NM governor Bill Richardson. Governor Richardson talked about his accomplishments in the state of New Mexico, including tax credits for renewable energy companies and individuals who use renewable energy…And, as a side note, I got to stand right next to Maureen Dowd as she took notes!” —Thereisnospoon, DailyKos

“[Richardson] looks good on paper, but doesn’t have a lot of recognition. Many wonder, if Hillary runs, how he gets out from under her fundraising wings…” —Jerome Armstrong, The Huffington Post

“Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico was the top luminary on the [energy] panel which also featured Jerome a Paris and other top energy bloggers. The plan had some great insights into how to address the US energy crisis…” —Chicagorik, IllinoisDemNet

“The governor’s experience and knowledge in the area made it quite a coup to have his presense [sic] at the table. However, a time change that put us up against Joe Wilson and the CIA Leak juggernaut. So the room, which had been full for Darksyde’s science panel, emptied…I’m sure the light crowd and complete lack of press attention was disappointing to Gov. Richardson…” —Devilstower, Daily Kos

“Richardson came to YearlyKos and did a lot while he was there; other top tier contenders for 2008 (Hillary Clinton, for example) didn’t even bother showing. And I think I’m in a pretty good position to know how the Richardson folks treat the netroots, and they’ve shown real class and interest so far.” —Ian, The Bill Richardson Blog

“We snagged a conversation with New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, in which we freely admitted that we’re not like a big Bill Richardson fan or anything, but that he presents some intriguing 2008 possibilities... But jeepers you’re buzz-free, we said, more or less, so is that why you’re at YearlyKos, to build some buzz?….” —The Gleaner, Las Vegas Gleaner
