The calendar marks the beginning of summer as June 21, but locals all
have their own ways of marking the beginning of Santa Fe’s busiest
season. There’s the first picnic in the Opera’s parking lot, the first
margarita at sunset on an outdoor patio or the first whitewater cruise
down the river.
Because Santa Fe in the summer is whatever you want it to be (artsy,
outdoorsy, liquidey), you’ll find something for everyone in this year’s
summer guide.
Art fans looking for the next big thing should be sure to check out
this summer’s fare of young artists and music lovers of every
genre are sure to be happy with this season’s lineup of festivals. There are also a slew of other cultural events, not to
mention summer movies, summer books and summer
shopping to keep you occupado.
If summer means feeling the heat, closed forests don’t mean closed
options. For those looking to save on gas, there’s always walking the
beaten and unbeaten track. Hint: all walks should end with
ice cream. For adventurers, fill up the tank and start looking for
treasures in the desert. We promise we’ll reward you if you
do! For other thrill seekers, more choices on land, water and in the
air abound.
But all efforts should be rewarded with a refreshment. Consider margs
and other fruity drinks or a refreshing glass of wine. Either will do to toast another well-spent summer day.
