About The Pink Adobe

"The Pink" was SFR’s 2003-2004 Restaurant of the Year. Since then, it's undergone major changes and reemerged. SFR's favorite isn't the venerable restaurant--we prefer to make a bistro at the bar.

Saving great ingredients from common fates, Chef Mike Meisel is an adventurer in fire and frogs’ legs. Meisel and his partner in crime, Pink Adobe manager and renegade wine buff Matt McClinton, are in cahoots to provide some of the most vibrant flavors ever to escape Santa Fe kitchens—and certainly the kitchen of the Pink Adobe. Using creative carte blanche, Meisel and McClinton engage in a playful gustatory and vinicultural dialogue that results in a weekly rotation of two $6 plates and two $6 glasses of wine to accompany them. A recent tapas theme included dishes of Spanish chorizo and pulpo con papas offered alongside two Spanish table wines; Bodegas Naia Las Brisas Rueda 2006 and a plummy Garnacha de Fuego 2007. Other dishes that have made appearances include tempura-fried frogs’ legs with sauce Gribiche, duck flautas with barbecue sauce, and soft polenta and panko-fried Cowgirl Creamery Mt. Tam cheese, all at $6 each. Anything that can be ordered at The Pink Adobe can be had in its sepia-lit bar and the halibut is a stand-out. But the bar menu is the treasure trove, with the Pink Adobe burger and the fried chicken rising like cream to the top. Speaking of cream, there is no better crème brûlée in Santa Fe than the one found here. For those who still haven’t been to the Pink’s scaly scion next door, the Dragon Room, since its metamorphosis, the time is now. (A Qasimi)
