The organic sounds that shape Tempe, Ariz.’s Foot Ox exude intrigue and inspiration with a solid indie backbone built upon inquisitive lyrics, fundamentalist ideals and simple instrumentation. Comprised of core member Teague Cullen and an arsenal of contributing musicians, the experimental folk-pop outfit hits the road with fellow Arizonians French Quarter and Bri White to kick 2009 into high gear.
French Quarter’s Stephen Steinbrink is on tour in support of the recently released LP Ugly Unknown, while the demure Bri White hauls her love for thoughtful, acoustic guitar to the stage in true Kimya Dawson fashion. All three acts sound overwhelmingly austere, yet underlying the slightly out-of-tune instruments are tricky elements of raw vulnerability just waiting to be discovered. (Kyle Eustice)
