Re-Runs

In Brief

The fallout from Sheriff Greg Solano’s resignation has been heavy and complicated—and it’s only just begun. Last month, Solano resigned and confessed to selling county property on eBay due to financial problems.

SFR spoke to each of the 2010 Democratic candidates for Santa Fe County sheriff to see if their collective cry for change should have been a warning bell. Former Undersheriff Robert Garcia, who won the race, has said he had no knowledge of Solano’s illegal activities, a claim Solano backs up in his resignation letter.

Charlie Dalton: “As far as criminal activity, I didn’t suspect that outright. But in my view, there was no guidance over [at the Sheriff’s Office]; there was no direction. That’s what I wanted to change.”

Rex Doerfer: “I ran for sheriff on my platform of being honest. The voters sometimes pick the wrong person, but you don’t know who you’re voting for until something like this happens.”

Rubel Tafoya: “I don’t wish to give a statement at all. I’d just rather stay out of that whole thing.”
