Here’s my preface: I am a snotty outdoors person who fancies old, dirty, well-loved ’80s-era LL Bean and North Face products over the ultra-light titanium, wick-away polyester or Isotherm fleece gear on the market these days.
On a recent Saturday, local potter Rusty Spicer was outside Santa Fe Clay, selling his beautiful ceramic bowls. Spicer recounted a story of a woman who bought one for her daughter, who lived in Paris. One day, the daughter returned to Santa Fe and found Spicer.
The city is chock-full of local businesses whose owners and employees
strive to create shopping experiences that are actually fun and
rewarding. It’s no wonder the city has been on the vanguard of the
buy-local movement; Santa Feans well understand the value of supporting
their independent shops, artisans and organizations.
By now you know the drill: Spending your money at local businesses keeps more of it in the community, pays for public services and supports independent stores. SFR is a big supporter of the shop local movement for all of these reasons—and for one other: Shopping locally is way more fun.
