In a letter to SFPS Superintendent Bobbie Gutierrez, the New Mexico Public Education Department announces its intention to audit the district for "significant and unusual increases in the area of special education...and in expenses for teacher training and experience."
---
The letter, posted below (give it a minute to load!), states that SFPS has reported increases in the number of special education students and the services provided, as well as in its expenses for teacher training, that are "inconsistent with recent trends."
Thirty-four districts are currently under scrutiny, but a release from PED states that most are expected to clear the audit process quickly.
