If you were at the Saturday, Aug. 15 Atmosphere concert, you know it was pretty sweet. If you weren't, there are pictures below and a list of top highlights in no particular order.
- Paolo Soleri is a pretty neat and intimate venue for a hip-hop show; everyone got the amphitheater experience but was close enough not to have to push forward. Decor reminds me of
- The Little Mermaid
- for some reason.
- The crowd was very, very young.
- Slug didn't discount this young crowd and assumed that since these kids probably
- have the internet, they probably recognize older, integral hip-hop. Thanks Slug.
- Possibly because the crowd was young and really does love hip-hop, they gladly participated. They danced and cheered, all within the confines of their seating area.
- Slug taught us a dance that I'm pretty sure ended after one move; for those at home, upturn your forearms, sway a bit.
- Atmosphere played with a band—in addition to Ant on tables and whatnot, there was a female backup singer, a guitarist and a keyboardist.
- I'm seeing this more and more lately.
- Atmosphere played songs from the group's entire oeuvre, but especially from
- God Loves Ugly
- ,
- 'cause the group never really got to tour for that.
- Not sure if Atmosphere would've been down with this, but toward the end of the concert a security guard motioned a group of pretty girls to come to the front and dance. He stopped only one girl in the group, then went to slap some dudes' hands in the audience: "You know what I'm sayin?"
- Security guard was bullied by the dancing girls to let their friend come too.
