Food carts tend to offer some of the most interesting and affordable food in any city. The problem is, they also tend to move around a lot or not be there on the day you thought they were gonna be there.
That’s not so with Chicago Dog, which is technically just a hot dog stand, but is also permanently located at the corner of Cerrillos and Paseo de Peralta. Chicago Dog excels in this genre because it does what all great carts and stands do: It serves a humble food item normally cooked at home and often quite difficult to get in restaurants. (Think Indian tacos, roasted corn, horchata.)
But admit it, guys, Chicago Dog does dogs better than Mom. For one thing, Mom usually has only one kind of dog and a limited condiment range, while Chicago Dog offers a wide range of methods for you to totally exceed your calorie limit for the day. Mmm…fully loaded sausage dogs. And the breakfast burritos are worth causing a minor traffic jam.
The only thing that could make this place better is extending the hours of operation to 24.
