Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society
505-983-4309
Located on a 100-acre tract of land, the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society uses the hiking trails on the property to walk the dogs and enjoy the sunsets. Last year, volunteers logged 12,429 hours at the shelter, which found homes for 3,551 animals in 2007 and 1,568 as of May 31, 2008. The shelter also has a behavior and training clinic, teaches children about humane treatment of animals and trains dogs to be pet therapy animals. SFASHS also has made great strides with its multiple spay and neuter clinics. With its swanky facility and wealth of programs for the community and beyond, the Santa Fe Animal Shelter almost makes you wish you were cute and fuzzy. “We want to thank the readers for voting for us,” Executive Director Duane Adams says. “Winning this award for the fifth year in a row is really a reflection on the community that has given so much support!”
