Santa Fe Radio Café harkens back to a simpler, gentler era, when town meetings were announced by crier and all the townspeople made their feelings known with a simple yea or nay. The local radio program broadcasts live at 8 am every weekday morning from the Santa Fe Baking Co., amid the muffins and Wi-fi users.
However, producer and host Mary-Charlotte Domandi’s program does more than set an example for other businesses with its idyllic, grassroots approachability. (Got a question? Simply walk right over and ask it!) Santa Fe Radio Café also serves as a hub for all sorts of local news, from political campaigns to the status of local rivers, and a touchstone for more general tidbits, from Buddhism to correct dog training.
Domandi doesn’t “draw a line between education and entertainment, and I don’t talk down to anyone.” In an age of internet and the decline of traditional news channels (a decline we’ve all heard too much about), such simplicity works. (Caroline K Gorman)
