With its upcoming talent search, Santa Ana Star Casino gives a select group of New Mexico’s starry-eyed hopefuls, including musicians, comedians, singers, etc., a chance to make it big or at least make fools of themselves in front of a live audience.---
With visions of potential record contracts and movie deals dancing in his head,
Director of Marketing Michael Burdick organized an
American Idol
-esque
talent competition exclusive to New Mexico
.
The Santa Ana Star Search winner significantly bumps up their celebrity cred with a one year development contract from a national talent agent, $10,000 cash and a trip for two to watch the 2011
finale as part of a live audience.
Additionally, the winning contestant gets to show off his or her stuff during a
solo performance at Santa Ana Star Casino’s Bosque Event Center
.
According to Burdick, "
New Mexico is quickly becoming the new entertainment region in the US
and there are hundreds of talented people moving into the area because of the film industry. We wanted to provide another platform for them to be seen and heard."
Whether or not there will be a
type on the judge's panel remains to be seen, but Burdick says, "the panel will consist of members that have
strong credentials in the performing arts and entertainment industry
."
Whoever the judges are, they will be evaluating contestants based on the following:
stage presence, attire, skill level, movement/blocking and audience response
.

Entrants have to be at least 21 years of age .
The contest is open to New Mexico residents only .
Entrants are required to submit a recorded audition in one of six talent categories, and should be considered an amateur performer .
The deadline for entries is midnight on Wednesday Jan. 12, 2011 .
24 entrants will be selected to perform in three preliminary competitions on Saturday Feb. 5, Saturday Feb. 12 and Saturday Feb. 26, 2011.
From the original 24 contestants, 9 finalists will be selected to compete in the Santa Ana Star Search finale on March 12, 2011.
