It's the little things that make all the difference at Pasqual's. Organic eggs, house-baked bread, Niman Ranch meats, freshly churned ice cream and knockout hot chocolate: Any one of them would make another café notable, but here

they're just part of the big picture. Late sleepers and tourists alike are drawn to breakfast, served here until mid-afternoon. The place only seats about 50, so at prime time the tables fill up quickly and a line forms outside the screen door. Leaning against the stuccoed exterior wall and reading the paper is pleasant enough, but you'll be seated more quickly if you tell the hostess you're willing to sit at the big oak communal table. That's where locals pass each other the classifieds section and visitors ask for suggestions on how to spend the rest of the afternoon. It's surprising how much conversation goes on in between bites of huevos motuleños (a crazy heap of eggs, tortillas, bananas, feta, peas and salsa) or smoked trout hash. At dinner, don't miss dishes like the Pollo Real chicken mole enchiladas, served with calabacitas and an excellent orange jicama salad. Desserts change every day, but are consistently excellent. As you pass the hostess stand, be sure to check out the baked goods in the little glass case.
