This weekend, Jackalope hosts a sale of papier-mache masks by artists from
(a coastal city about 25 miles southwest of Port-au-Prince) to benefit ADASE (Associations dertisans du Sud-Est), a Haitian artists' cooperative formed in 2005. Three hundred of the cooperative's members are now homeless due to the January 12 earthquake, and what masks were not destroyed in the earthquake have been shipped to the States for sale to help rebuild the town.
ADASE will take part in the 2010 International Folk Market here in Santa Fe. The IFAM has posted about the sale on its
as well.
The sale is going on at Jackalope locations in both Santa Fe and Albuquerque; addresses and phone numbers available below the jump. Also below tis a gorgeous image of these masks in action at Carnival in Jacmel (as seen on
).
This image, by
, shows just how much is possible with the authentic carnival masks coming to Santa Fe this weekend. We aren't nearly as cool as these people, but we can try.
