SANTA FE MAYOR COSS FILES FOR RE-ELECTION
Santa Fe, NM --- Santa Fe Mayor David Coss filed for re-election at the City Clerk's Office today, emphasizing his desire to continue collaborating with community, government and business leaders to build A City that Works for All of Us - Un Lugar Para Todos.
"I have been so honored to serve as Mayor of Santa Fe," said Mayor Coss. "This is a very special place with so many wonderful, talented people, and I look forward to continuing our hard work for another four years."
In filing for a second term, Mayor Coss stressed his ongoing efforts to unify Santa Feans around shared goals. Indeed, bringing people together has been a hallmark of the Mayor's first three years in office.
Over the course of Mayor Coss's first term, important progress has been made toward making Santa Fe a City that Works for All of Us. Notably, the new Civic Center was completed on time and under budget; the grand opening of the long-awaited Railyard has provided a vibrant new business center for the city; the launch of the Railrunner train service has finally given local commuters a viable public transportation option; and the beginning of the restoration of the Santa Fe River has helped fulfill the community's desire for a healthy, sustainable river in our city. All of these projects required detailed coordination with state, county and federal governments, as well as private industry, something the Mayor has been instrumental in facilitating.
"These huge public projects have changed the face and fabric of Santa Fe, and are turning us into a 21st century city without sacrificing our history or culture," said the Mayor. Affordable housing initiatives, the expansion of the coverage of the living wage, and the beginning of a "green jobs" economy have advanced significantly during the Mayor's first term.
Public Safety has also been a priority for Mayor Coss. Under this administration, all vacant police positions have been filled; major improvements were made to the police station including an expansion and equipment upgrades, newly hired fire fighters are now on duty throughout the city; and the completion of the new fire stations in Tierra Contenta and at the Santa Fe Airport have provided the city with additional coverage.
"We've accomplished a lot during the past three years, but there is still more work to be done," Mayor Coss said. "Mayors can take all of the credit and all of the blame, but the truth is that no single person caused all of this progress to happen. A City that Works for All can only be accomplished by a community that works together. It's the work and dedication of our entire community. We are moving forward together."
In the coming weeks, Mayor Coss will expand on the major themes of his campaign.
