Richochet’s STITCH uses props such as hula-hoops, rope swings, stilts and curtains to intertwine a majestic demonstration of body contortion and acrobatics with the complex relationship between two people. The result is a "metaphor for the dysfunctionality of human relationships translated into complex body movements and emotions," Harrell says.
Harrell, who describes his art form as "poetic acrobatics," is a 10-year veteran in the field. He takes pride that this entire performance is arranged, choreographed, produced and performed by himself and his partner Stokes.
"[STITCH] was a seed of idea that grew into a flower," Harrell says. "You have to stay true to yourself," and everything else will fall into place.
STITCH has a sort of "make-you-laugh, make-you-cry" comedy element, Harrell says, while it simultaneously interweaves the darkness that can come between two people. What emerges is a "'ball of wax' metaphor for human relationships" that Harrell and Stokes mold to their will.
The final product is a show based on the support—both emotional and physical—between the two acrobats as they twist and turn through curtains, dance across stilts, and perform contortions rarely seen in these parts.
