Public politics--waged on TV and through GOTV--is significantly different than the every-other-year jockeying in the state legislature. So, let's see the sides make their cases, 30 seconds at a time. I didn't start off being against the death penalty....But after 10 years covering it, I haven't heard a truly strong or valid argument to keep it. From the looks of that TV spot, Repeal the Repeal looks like it's going to shock voters to reconsider their positions. Will Amnesty International and the ACLU fight back?
If voters put the death penalty back on the books and we do actually execute someone, there will be a hard number of individual citizens with blood on their hands.
Part of me likes the idea of a ballot initiative. I'm not sure whether its legally viable...
