Santa Fe Public Schools deputy superintendent Mel Morgan resigned from his position effective Sept. 2 and will take a job at the city of Santa Fe.
Melville "Mel" Morgan also was serving as chief financial officer for the past year in addition to his duties as deputy superintendent. He previously held the title of associate superintendent and applied to head the district in 2008, the year current superintendent Bobbie Gutierrez was chosen instead.
Morgan will now replace current Santa Fe Finance Director Katherine Raveling. His PhD, which he received from New Mexico State University, is in educational administration; his masters in education and bachelor's is from the University of Texas at El Paso.
Morgan developed testing standards under the federal No Child Left Behind Act in a previous post at the state Public Education Department, and was director of data management at Las Cruces Public Schools when before coming to SFPS in 2006.
