The Española Animal Shelter is asking for immediate help, as it is in a crisis situation. The shelter is currently without heat and water.Nina Chiotasso, who does community outreach for the shelter, says the City of Española has lost gas, and the shelter has been furthermore unable to locate any space heaters for sale in the city.
If you can provide the shelter with space heaters, please do so. The shelter also needs people to help with fostering dogs and puppies for the next few days, as it is too cold for the animals to remain in the shelter. The shelter has been able to temporarily place most of its cat population.
According to an email from Chiotasso, the shelter is able to "provide as many crates and litterboxes as we have here for overnights, but we have to get these babies out of here before nightfall. All animals are current on vaccination and most are already spayed or neutered."
If you can help, please call the shelter at (505) 753-8662. Please do not call staff cell phones, as apparently the tower is out and there is limited service.
