RON SEXSMITH
"All in Good Time"
This is the song we all wish Paul McCartney had written as the summer anthem of 2006. But, since Sexsmith's cool factor eclipses that of the former Beatle, it's even more satisfying-sunny, simple midtempo drums, gossamer-light lyrics, a comfortably predictable bridge. It's Sexsmith's ineffably relaxing appeal that makes it the song you should hum on the way to the beach. Or the Plaza.
YEAH YEAH YEAHS
"Gold Lion"
We hate to admit it, but this single from the much-heralded band's sophomore effort
Show Your Bones
is pretty much the only song worth owning, and this way you don't have to buy the whole album! "Gold Lion" is more straightforward, less minimalist than YYYs' previous work, but rewarding for its Pixies-esque loud/soft dynamic and, as always, Karen O's vocals, which sound like the world's most rockin' hoot owl.

BLONDIE VS. THE DOORS
"Rapture Riders"
A current favorite of KBAC morning DJ Honey Harris, this is a mashup of particularly excellent quality. The funky, chunky syncopations of Blondie's "Rapture" match perfectly with Jim Morrision's deep "Riders on the Storm" vocals. In fact, damn if the addition of Deborah Harry's iconic rap doesn't improve the classic rock song immeasurably.

CASIOTONE FOR THE PAINFULLY ALONE
"Young Shields"
This is what the new wave of new wave is
supposed
to sound like: Dark, moody, synthetic waves of joy and pain, namechecks of Patty Hearst and Squeaky Fromme, all from one-man keyboard maniac/film school dropout Owen Ashworth, who frequently plays shows at CSF when he's not hanging out with equally depressed, equally talented hipsters in his hometown of Chicago. Interpol, you now have a rival.
