Eric Fischer (no relation--at least that we know of--to SFR Web Editor Zane Fischer) is something of a guru in the data visualization field, and rightly so. His latest projects include visually striking heat maps of jobs data, tweets vs phone calls in international cities, and trippy-looking traffic light analyses.
But here's the one that gets us: After mapping data points for every Flickr photo taken with a geotag, Fischer then went in and analyzed whether the photo was likely taken by a tourist or a local.
How'd he make the distinction? Here's Fischer's explanation, via flowingdata.com:
Red points are pictures taken by tourists (people who seem to be a local of a different city and who took pictures in this city for less than a month).
Yellow points are pictures where it can't be determined whether or not the photographer was a tourist (because they haven't taken pictures anywhere for over a month). They are probably tourists but might just not post many pictures at all.
Blue points on the map are pictures taken by locals (people who have taken pictures in this city dated over a range of a month or more).
