PSST:
Word around town is that, come fall, Santa Fe High School Principal Susan Lumley will serve as head of Eldorado Elementary School. When asked if the rumor were true, Santa Fe Public Schools Spokeswoman Ruthanne Greeley could not comment further but an announcement on new principal appointments by Supt. Gloria Rendón is expected July 13. If Lumley is indeed headed to be principal of Eldorado, the move would constitute a major victory for Santa Fe High's Faculty Senate, a group of more than 20 teachers who filed a grievance against Lumley last spring for creating a hostile working environment [Cover story, May 25:

FASHION STATEMENT:
A T-shirt that can be purchased online and from uber-trendy chain Urban Outfitters is making some bloggers' lists of most offensive tees for conjuring stereotypes about our neighbors to the south. Featuring a graphic of New Mexico's breathtaking landscape, the shirt reads, "New Mexico: Cleaner than Regular Mexico." Released last year, the shirt is a product of Busted Tees and the brainchild of designer Ricky Van Wenn. The designer says he meant no offense by the shirt's slogan. "I just thought the phrasing was funny, like, regular Mexico," he explains. "It's kind of silly." Van Wenn says the slogan had nothing to do with the fact that people from other states commonly confuse New Mexico with Mexico. "I think everyone pretty much gets that." That said, however, Van Wenn doesn't deny his belief New Mexico is cleaner than "regular Mexico." While he calls the Land of Enchantment lovely, Van Wenn wasn't so impressed with Cancún and believes others with the firsthand knowledge to compare the US state to the country it's named after would feel likewise. "Everyone realizes that New Mexico would obviously be tidier than Mexico itself," he says. Wonder why Van Wenn, a New Yorker, didn't come up with a shirt that says his state is cleaner than regular York. (NK)
