OK, I'm not going to bag on the farolito walk because I actually really like it, but as has been noted,
for a Christmas-related event. This isn't a new thing, though. In fact, I'm including a cartoon our former cartoonist, the late and wonderful
Ron Williams, did back in 2000. I have a working theory that Santa Fe has a natural tendency to turn every holiday into a Halloween-esque pagan ritual, and the growing frenzy of the farolito walk seems to bear out of my theory. On the other hand, given my own lack of Christianity (not to mention any other religion), it's fine by me—as long as I don't get tasered while searching for hot chocolate on Canyon Road.
If the prospect of farolito traffic has you considering opting out, don't forget that the City of Santa Fe provides bus service to the PERA parking lot. Here's the city press release with the info:
