Not that it was a very well-kept secret or anything, but Meow Wolf announced today a big fat music and arts festival, known as Taos Vortex, for this August 3 and 4 in—get this—Taos, New Mexico. Rumors, of course, have swirled for weeks about the show, and the art corp's recent inclusion of Flaming Lips' front man Wayne Coyne's installation, The King's Mouth, in its lobby seemed pretty foreshadowy (Coyne is reportedly a big Meow Wolf fan).
Flaming Lips headlines the two-day all-ages event and other bands in the lineup include Pennsylvania indie rockers Dr. Dog, seminal electronic music duo Thievery Corporation, singer-songwriter-producer Washed Out and more. The weekend also includes special installations, so-called "chill zones," a dance tent, DJs and camping for those so inclined. Campers must be 21 and over.
Tickets for the full weekend ($199) go on sale this Friday May 11 and smaller packages ($69-$149 and with various levels of access to all of the weekend's offerings) go up the following Friday, May 18.
We'd be remiss to not point out this may just be one of the biggest—or at least most star-studded—events in New Mexico concert history, even if it isn't one of the most affordable. But them's the breaks when Flaming Lips come to town, er, Taos. Regardless, how good does this thing look? Pretty damn good.
