In the long run, the worst aspect of the historic Pink Adobe restaurant's shuttering during the first weekend in November may be the loss of a local landmark.
The restaurant was begun by Rosalea Murphy in the '40s and, despite changes of hands along the way, remained a draw for locals and tourists alike.
We didn't just go to the Pink for its Gypsy Stew, though. The restaurant's accompanying bar, The Dragon Room, was a great place to hang—hence its inclusion in this week's Winter Guide story on hot drinks for the cold months (page 28). The story was already at the printer when the news of the Pink's demise came to SFR via email from the restaurant's general manager.
SFR regrets the short-term pain of our now out-of-date recommendation, as well as the loss of one of Santa Fe's great watering holes. But perhaps the worst part is the more than 30 employees who, according to the manager, lost their jobs.
The Santa Fe New Mexican reported the Pink had filed for bankruptcy last June.
Calls to the Garrett Hotel Group, which purchased the restaurant in 2007, were not returned prior to press time.
