EA Announces Crysis 3 !---
Following unfortunate leaks around the internet, mega-publisher Electronic Arts had no choice but to officially announce the 2013 release of Crysis 3 , the next iteration in the blockbuster series from Germany-based developer Crytek. Thus far, little is known about the game, but SFR has a few details that you can hungrily salivate over until next year.
WARNING: THERE ARE SPOILERS BELOW FOR ANYONE WHO DID NOT PLAY THE FIRST TWO GAMES IN THE SERIES!
Crysis 3 will reportedly put Players in the shoes of super-soldier Prophet, interesting enough considering his role in Crysis 2 (we don't wanna ruin it, but dude put a bullet in his head within the first 10 minutes of the game, making way for the silent hero Alcatraz to wreck shit). Prophet will discover that New York City has been encased in some sort of nanodome by the evil CELL corporation. Ceph (the alien race from previous games) and soldiers occupy the quarantined city while all hell breaks lose and our buddy Prophet searches for answers. Will this fill the gaps between the first and second games? Will we discover what Prophet was doing before Alcatraz came along? Will we get the answers to certain questions we've had since the first game? We can only assume/hope so.
Leaked box art has shown the infamous nanosuit utilized in both previous Crysis releases (we like the invisibility power), but instead of one of the modern-day/semi-futuristic weapons for which the series is known, the character on the front wields a bow and arrow. Though pre-order bonus info has confirmed that this will indeed be a shoot-'em-up on par with previous installments, we're curious to see what the bow and arrow is all about. It's been reported that parts of NYC will be like some sort of jungle, and we'll be interested to see how Prophet will stalk his prey. Will the bow and arrow finally offer some leeway within the stealth mechanics? In previous games, the invisibility provided by the nanosuit was interrupted by firing a weapon (even with a silencer...we hated that!), and many of us will no-doubt recall frantically running for our lives following a poorly-timed shot.
Not cool enough? Fine—it gets better! EA has already announced some of the in-game goodies that'll come for those who pre-order from specific retailers. The info below was pulled directly from an EA email we received like, 5 minutes ago:
Anyway...
We hate having to wait til 2013, but given the staggering beauty and flat-out incredible fun on the first two Crysis games, we'll give Crytek all the time they want. We've got a lot to play between now and then, but we're betting this game is going to haunt our dreams.
*note that the box art up there might change, and that this game will come out on PC, 360 and PS3.
