There's just one chance left to witness the athletic, contemporary dance moves of the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet before they close up shop for the summer. For those who missed their July performance in town, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet presents an encore performance as the finale of its 15th anniversary season tonight at 8 pm.
---
This night of dance comes from a collection of international choreographers. Finland’s Jorma Elo has created a breathtaking piece titled Over Glow. Six dancers execute hip-hop and breakdance moves to the classical music of Felix Mendelssohn and Ludwig van Beethoven.
Kiss Me Goodnight is a new acquisition from Catelonian choreographer Cayetano Soto. This ballet is told from a child's perspective and was inspired by Soto's childhood tradition of being kissed goodnight by his mother. This is the third Soto piece that the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet has performed. The music of Santa Fe native Zack Condon's indie folk band Beirut is featured.
Czech choreographer Jirí Kylían's Stamping Ground is a very physical and energetic piece, which particularly showcases the athleticism of the dancers. The origin of the piece is rooted in an invitation to a gathering of Australian aboriginal dancers. These are not reproductions of aboriginal dance but rather Kylían's own interpretations.
If you're an enthusiast of ballet, contemporary dance, classical music, international art or beautiful athletic bodies, this performance should be right up your alley.
