Santa Fe's first and longest-running Japanese restaurant and sushi powerhouse, Shohko Café, announced via Facebook today that it will close following service on Saturday May 11.

SFR reached out to the restaurant, but the employee we spoke with did not wish to comment beyond confirming the closure and final service, and to say that the restaurant will be present at the Santa Fe Japanese Cultural Festival at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center, also on May 11.
In February of this year, a judge awarded $58,148 to three former employees of Shohko Café in unpaid overtime wages, though SFR was unable to confirm whether this played a role in the restaurant's closure.
Shohko Café was founded in 1975 by Shohko and Hiro Fukuda, and has since been a popular destination for fans of Japanese cuisine. Shohko Café also enjoyed first place wins in SFR's Best of Santa Fe poll in the Best Sushi category from 2009 through 2016.
