Unless you've been practicing your one leg stand and heel-toe walk after pounding Cristal, you might be interested to know there's a DUI checkpoint in Santa Fe County tomorrow night.---
State Police will be setting up the roadblock somewhere in the county the evening of Saturday, April 14. According to a press release, the agency steps up such efforts in the spring and summer "to arrest drunk drivers and hopefully deter those who may be contemplating the poor decision to drink and drive."
During a series of similar operations conducted statewide over St. Patty's Day weekend, State Police nabbed 38 drunk drivers, though their press release for that haul notes that none of those arrests were "the direct result of a checkpoint." National studies suggest the presence of checkpoints does influence drivers' decision whether to drink, however, the release states.
Perhaps State Police are hoping to catch revelers on the way home from the Albuquerque Isotopes second game tomorrow night (opening night at Isotopes Stadium is tonight). Either way, they'll be on the lookout for bloodshot watery eyes, the clink of miniatures rolling around the back of your Grand Am, and the telltale salutation, "Good evening, occifer."
