One season's passage into the next is always a matter of give and take. Some years a particular season just wants to keep on giving. And giving. But if you could ask a member of one of the megalithic cultures predating Celts, Romans and Saxons, you would hear that warm, sunny weather in February and shocking amounts of snow in March is the essence of Spring; it's all about balance.
The same words would come from Mayans, ancient Greeks or Persians. Modern day Iranians celebrate Naw-Rúz, just as contemporary Christians celebrate Easter. Whether proponent of Passover or descendant of Dionysus, all agree that Summer and Winter represent the extremes of the planet's rotation and axis in relation to the sun, while Fall and Spring are the transitional seasons, marked by the equinoxes and equitable (if theoretical) amounts of sun across the hemispheres.
As transition is marked by new knowledge, SFR's annual list of 25 How-to guides is here to assist. If you begin your Spring by adding additional weatherstripping to keep the heat in, be aware your efforts can pay off with fighting pests (
). If Spring is slow enough in coming to inspire a trip to Southern climes, schedule a low-level irradiation at the Trinity Site (
), and if you're pondering the pros and cons of attaching a snow shovel to the front of your bicycle (
), SFR is here to give. If you're in the mood to take, go ahead and take out the center spread events calendar and keep it around for easy reference-it's chock full of enough activities to carry you right into Summer. If you still believe in Summer.
