Last week, candidates for Santa Fe City Council District 3 answered voters' questions about publicly financed campaigns, the state of the schools and several other issues.
---
Candidates Maria Campos, Gilbert Martinez and Chris Rivera each had two minutes to answer the following questions:
- Did you accept or decline public financing under the 2008 charter amendment offering public financing that was approved by 63 percent of Santa Fe’s voters?
- What can you, as a city council member, do to improve and sustain the state of Santa Fe Public Schools?
- Would you support a means to supply the municipality from a sustainable, off-the-grid source, and how feasible do you think this would be?
- Should the city be engaged in the business of buying land and then leasing it to either private or for-profit schools or charter schools like New Mexico School for the Arts?
- Many new businesses in our city are immigrant-owned. Immigrants make up about 12 percent of our workforce. What would you propose to integrate our young, hardworking immigrants into the community at large, and how would you capitalize on this resource that is revitalizing the economy?
- Are you familiar with the city’s charter? If elected, what changes to the charter, if any, would you advocate?
