DAVID FIRTH
Using flash animation, David Firth has created some interesting and creepy cartoon characters.
Salad Fingers
' greenish complexion, ghostly voice and rotting teeth make him a Tim Burton-esque creature who enjoys spending time with his deceased relative from The Great War. On the other hand, the futuristic land of
Pitkobj
takes viewers into a tan-hued world where characters comment on each other's faked foreign accents while trying to put together the short stories of their lives. Firth doesn't update the site too much, but the dark archive runs deep.
HAPPY TREE FRIENDS
It sure has a cute, sweet ring to it, but it's not the cuddly little woodland creature 'toon one might expect. These adorable brightly colored critters are impaled by playground equipment, get candy stuck in the most important of organs and aren't so great at cutting down trees or getting hot dogs at the convenience store.
Happy Tree Friends
is as gory and graphic as they come, with some sick minds twisting the kids genre around for adults, all wrapped up in super-short, under 3-minute episodes, which are also available to download to an iPod.
HOMESTAR RUNNER
Strong Bad Emails
have been going around the Internet for a while now, but are still finding new audiences amongst new college kids. The Superhero of Strongbadia, Strong Bad, checks viewers' e-mail questions, with the responses, which often have little to do with the original question. These short 'toons offer advice on how to draw a dragon, opinions on techno music and occasionally have hidden links which lead further into the mind of Strong Bad and his pet peeve, incorrect grammar. There is also a 10-part series, drawn and narrated by Strong Bad himself, called
Teen Girl Squad
. The serial follows four barely teenage girls through their bickering and infighting, filtered of course through the eyes of a boy.
