Carving a Path
Poeh Cultural Center’s Pathways Winter Market is freakin’ huge!
While we were busy doing other things, the stupid year kept right on rolling and we woke up to realize we’re basically inside that terrifying holiday window that requires gifts. It’s OK. Just breathe. This is New Mexico, where getting gifts can also mean supporting artists of various stripes with ease.
Enter the Poeh Cultural Centers’ Pathways Winter Market, the cold-time-of-the-year counterpart to its annual summertime Indian Market alternative. Billed as “the largest holiday art market in New Mexico,” the winter version of Pathways is crammed with more than 250 Indigenous artists working in jewelry, pottery, clothing, visual art and more—plus you’ll catch live entertainment like music and dance; food, partying and more.
Need to grab something for a co-worker you barely know? Pathways. Heading to your weird family’s house but can’t possibly buy people iPhones because that’s insane? Pathways. Do you just plain feel like keeping your dollars local and discovering an entire world of Indigenous artistry while on your quest to make the coming weeks actually memorable? Pathways. This event takes up two entire ballrooms at Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino in Pojoaque, so if you don’t find something amazing, that’s kind of on you. Mark your calendars. (Alex De Vore)
Pathways Winter Market: 9 am-5 pm Saturday, Nov. 23 and 9 am-4 pm Sunday, Nov. 24. Free (but pay for items, duh). Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino, 30 Buffalo Thunder Trail, poehcenter.org

Bill Us
Sometimes in Santa Fe it can be easy to take certain things for granted. Case in point? Local country music/flat-pickin’ legend Bill Hearne has become such a mainstay within the local scene that he can sometimes go overlooked. Make no mistake, though—Hearne’s set is absolutely worth your time, from his singular guitar playing and mournful croon to his earnest delivery of originals and covers. If you’re real lucky, Hearne will play “New Mexico Rain,” a song penned by his nephew Michael Hearne that uncle Bill does so well it’s practically his at this point. Tell him the folks at SFR said hello when you stop by. (ADV)
Bill Hearne: 4-6 pm Thursday, Nov. 21. Free. Cowgirl, 319 S Guadalupe St., (505) 982-2565

What Foolishness is This?
If you somehow hadn’t heard yet, circus arts nonprofit Wise Fool New Mexico has been unceremoniously evicted from its longtime space on Siler Road with very little notice, and the hunt for a new space is on. If you’re wondering how to help in the immediate future, head to Tumbleroot Brewery & Distillery this Friday for Smooth Moves, a cabaret and variety show/fundraiser for the organization. You’ll have some drinks, share some laughs and help support one of the most valuable local orgs we have. Seriously, though, we can’t drop the ball on this one. (ADV)
Smooth Moves: A Fundraiser for Wise Fool: 6 pm Friday, Nov. 22. $20-$100. Tumbleroot Brewery & Distiller, 2731 Agua Fría St. (505) 303-3808

The weekend event kicks off with a preview party on Friday evening and runs through the weekend. Ya been told. (ADV)
