The Human Beast box
Rejoice! Santa Fe’s first-ever puppet slam is here. The furry creation of puppeteer Devon Hawkes Ludlow and his Human Beast Box, the event is dubbed “The Merry Month of May Puppet Slam,” and features happenings scheduled in and around Wise Fool Studio this weekend. It concludes with a party held inside an abandoned building located across the historic El Santuario de Guadalupe Church. Why? Why not.
Complete the following sentence: Everyone loves puppets because…
Because they are the champions of anarchy. They know no rules, so there's always a good element of fear involved (the hopeful kind of fear).
What is The Human Beast Box?
That's my puppet and public performance/crazy company. We do body puppets and we're currently working on a zombie puppet musical, which we're trying to find a new name for. Necrophilia for Dummies just isn't working.
What can attendees expect during Saturday's closing party?
A wide variety of performances at a former Catholic school—ranging from the avant-garde Baltimore Shadow Puppet Group to the cruel imaginations of locals Flying Wall. It'll be something that will throw a wrench in your brain and forever alter your mindscape.
