TOTAL PORKER
The current Reporter has an excellent piece on censorship of the media, including self-censorship [Cover story, Sept. 21: "
"]. I suggest that the Reporter and the other local media are guilty also. Specifically, there seems to be a "wall of silence" concerning the role of Senator Domenici and his activities. As the head of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee he operates the biggest "pork barrel" in the Senate, the budget of the Corps of Engineers. Never a word about this. In the current Department of Energy budget, Pete's Senate Committee proposes over $100 million in Congress "earmarked" funds. In a word, "pork"! The House proposes none. Senator Domenici, over the last few years, has gone crazy with such "pork," and the local media just can't bring itself to report on it. The self-censorship does not serve New Mexico or our country. I suggest that it is simple cowardice.

CELL CENSOR
Re: Censored News: The cell phone industry has some accomplices in their new stealth initiative of cell (microwave technology) towers (some that look like trees) and suppressing research about the ill effects of cell phones-the media! The New Mexican had the research and claimed to have done a story on the findings (although no one I know saw the story) from Utah that using a cell phone causes a person to have less peripheral vision than a drunk driver. Yes folks, it's not just distraction, but a cognitive change that has you driving drunk without having a drink. Cell car users are endangering all of our lives. The media doesn't want to lose the cell advertisements. What's a few million lives lost, in our brave new market value world?

WAL, NOT GREEN
Dear Mayor Delgado,
I was very impressed with your thoughtful speech last night at the City Council meeting. Your important vote kicking those "green" yuppies firmly in the balls will not be forgotten.
Santa Fe needs the ordinary mediocrity of a Wal-Mart [Outtakes, Sept. 21: "
"]. The citizens on the south side need this new opportunity to buy cheap things more conveniently than they already can.
I'm glad you stood up tall and did your part in chipping away at that stupid concept of "Santa Fe, the City Different." Who wants to be different?
As I said, I won't forget what you did last night. Never.

TITANIC WARNING
ATTENTION! ACHTUNG! ATTENTION ALL PASSENGERS! PUT ON YOUR LIFE JACKETS AND PREPARE TO ABANDON SHIP! Our ship is slowly filling with water and tilting sharply starboard. There is an idiot at the helm. I and others are bailing like crazy. All passengers are advised to ABANDON SHIP AT ONCE. Once the cargo in the hold shifts all will be in the water. The Golden Rule pump is not yet operable. Our ship is doomed unless we can get it working but the water is rising.
