Some Hero
Psst, hello? Isn’t David Iglesias [Cover story, June 4: “Finding Justice”] the guy who believes that John Ashcroft is a terrific American?

Bad Judgment
Charles Fox did a nice job trashing your endorsement of Steve Pearce [Cover story, May 28: “Decisions, Decisions”]. However, he left out one important point. The reason you endorsed Pearce, an unconscionable choice, is simply because his Republican opponent, Heather Wilson, whom Pearce called “too liberal,” did not consent to an interview with your oh-so-progressive paper. This goes beyond bad judgment; it speaks to an arrogant and petulant journalistic style. Excuse me, but your credibility is shot. I’m afraid that even an apology won’t restore it. But you might try. See if it works.

Heartfelt Thanks
It is from my heart that I gratefully give thanks to you for going to the polls and giving me an overwhelming victory to serve you again as YOUR county clerk. I am also thankful for the public endorsements of the New Mexican, the Rio Grande Sun, the Albuquerque Journal, the Edgewood Independent, the Santa Fe Reporter, elected officials, unions, tribal leaders, my committee, my staff, poll workers, my treasurer, Johnny Hooper and so many others.
A BIG thank you goes out to every individual who contributed their time, effort and financial resources to my campaign. To those of you who made calls and placed signs at your homes and businesses, I thank you for making this race very special. I’m moved and driven to do even more in the years to come. Thank you for being there for me as I am always there for you. Together we have a bright future of the best services possible to you. You deserve it.

Army Intelligence
Thank you for your cover article on military recruitment of youth [Cover story, May 21: “In the Army...Now?”]. On May 13, the ACLU published a report, “Soldier of Misfortune,” that presents the illegality, according to UN protocols the US has signed, of the practices that are going on daily in US high schools. I’m sorry Mark Sanders’ article did not reference this information. Go to Media Mouse (Report: “US Military Violates International Protocol”) for more information.

Good Times
I wanted to thank the Santa Fe Reporter staff for their help during the Santa Fe Reporter Block Party a week ago.
I saw old friends, made new ones and ran into people I generally try to avoid. I had a glass of excellent cheap wine; ate a hot pastrami sandwich, the best this side of the Carnegie Deli; washed that down with a cup of gelato. I had my palm read and my feet massaged. I talked to psychics, tarot readers, a shaman and a Russian gypsy. I signed several petitions, petted puppies, kitties and alpacas.
This was my first year with a table at the block party and I especially want to thank Marcia Beverly who promptly responded to my confusing e-mails and ensuing panic. Give her a raise, a two-hour lunch and a few days off.
I have lived in Santa Fe long enough to remember when the Reporter only came in black and white. In fact, it was home-delivered and I was one of those who ran out onto the driveway and threw it back at the driver. And there was a time when an enterprising entrepreneur emptied the dispensers and sold copies on the street corner for a quarter.
Thanks again and I look forward to next year.
