Contrary to "Driving Blind", New Mexico is making outstanding progress in reducing drunk driving. Here are the facts:
1. The NM alcohol-involved crash rate decreased 38 percent between 2002 and 2007.
2. The NM alcohol-involved injury rate decreased 45 percent between 2002 and 2007.
3. The NM alcohol-involved fatality rate decreased 44 percent between 2002 and 2008.
4. Interlocked offenders have a re-arrest rate that is one-fourth that of non-interlocked offenders.
5. The overall statewide DWI re-arrest rate is down 37 percent.
New Mexico ignition interlock laws are the models for the nation according to a New York Times editorial. Our governor, legislators, judges, police officers, Traffic Safety Bureau and many advocates and organizations have contributed to our progress at reducing DWI in New Mexico.

I take great umbrage at your callous attempts at humor as shown in the number one post in your 7 Days column.
By trying to make light of the situation by asking if there are "tickets on sale yet" to the trial is beyond the pale. No matter how much this story's been sensationalized, your run-of-the-mill spectator sport it is not.
The families of both William Tenorio and Carlos Fierro have suffered immeasurably as a result of this incident.
Your blatant and insensitive disregard for the lives that have been irreparably shattered is reprehensible.
A public apology for your insensitively is in order.

We were sorry to see the Reporter's Annual Manual neglected to mention the 35th Annual Santa Fe Bluegrass and Old-Time Music Festival, Aug. 28-30 at the County Fairgrounds (3229 Rodeo Road in Santa Fe). For 35 years, this celebration of traditional acoustic music has featured a mix of national, regional and local performers, as well as instrument contests, jam sessions, free camping and activities for the entire family. Clean it up
Now that the 400th anniversary of whatever may actually come to fruition, the city and state should make a genuine effort to clean the streets and sidewalks, to rid them of trash and weeds.
It's amazing all the trash that can be seen from the train entering or leaving town.
The city bus and its stops also need to be maintained.
Why is this effort always unseen?
