Briefs, June 4: “The Rodeo Must Go On”
Unethical
Rodeos are extremely animal-cruel events that have absolutely no place in a compassionate society. I wish the rift between the two groups had not been resolved.

I recently noticed that volunteering at the Interfaith Community Shelter made your list. Last season, we served nearly 1,000 individuals for more than 12,000 bed nights and served more than 27,000 meals, as well as an additional 11,500 lunches, without any reported deaths due to homelessness and hypothermia. This is truly a Herculean effort, achieved by the 45+ faith and community groups and 2,500+ volunteers working together to care for and about those citizens of our city who are the most vulnerable.
I would like to take this opportunity, first, to publicly thank all our volunteers and donors, the City of Santa Fe and the many other providers of services to the homeless who work so tirelessly on behalf of those amongst us who are of greatest need. And second, to invite anyone who wishes to volunteer or donate to shelter operations to contact Sue Carr at 795-7494. We are already beginning to gear up for next season and would be more than pleased to have you join us in the service of our community and our neighbors.

I don't know if you guys are aware of this, but Sanbusco is lending us the old Borders space for our 50th anniversary fundraiser for Kiwanis (to offset the cost is Zozobra), as well as allowing us to build Zozobra and host ZozoFest all at no charge. I have found their staff and their management to be extremely giving toward community.
