Restaurant Guide 2015
Chef’s Choice
As a 20-year resident of Santa Fe, and as a chef, I always look forward to the annual Restaurant Guide. Over the years I've been fortunate to see a few of the restaurants in which I've worked featured in the guide.
It was wonderful to see izanami in this year's 10 Best list. Having just left my position as chef at izanami, it was great to see our team's hard work recognized by SFR.
In a city full of great chefs and restaurants, it was particularly gratifying to be included in the list with all of the other great restaurants. Congratulations to my fellow chefs!

Check Your Sources
Thank you for pointing out your choices of which are best restaurants this year in Santa Fe. We are all blessed to have such a large cornucopia of delicious choices in our relatively small community. Of course taste, ambiance and service go a long way to fulfilling our outsourced epicurean experiences. However, given the pressing issues swirling around where our food is sourced, are taste, ambiance and service our most important priorities? Was the beef or lamb grass fed or pastured? Is the dairy free of hormones? Are the vegetables organic, or at the very least non-GMO and pesticide free? What is the benefit of having a delicious meal in iconic surroundings if what we are eating is slowing poisoning us instead of nurturing us at the deeper levels beyond instant gratification? We truly are what we eat.

Journalistic Duty
As an educated public participation worker, I can tell you the No. 1 thing the public has asked for is recommendations on their voting choices. This is especially true when you are talking about difficult issues like at the Los Alamos and Carlsbad communities. For this reason, I thank you for stating your choices and your reasoning (as limited as it is). While I have appreciated the news from the independent sources like New Mexico In Depth, their lack of appreciation for this necessary duty as followers of the ins and outs of the data they collect is disconcerting to me.
