News, Nov. 12: “Laugh and/or Cry”
Duplicitous
Thanks for this examination. The duplicity and deception obscure what's going on: corporate takeover of government agencies and regulators who should be acting in public interest but in fact protect polluters from accountability.

Opinion, Nov. 12: “Covering All Bases”
Honestly?
C Ortiz seems bent on dragging just about everyone else into his or her own irrational anger. If s/he is angry about the cover of the chefs issue and offended by it, then be so, but do not drag others into the matter. While observant Jews and Muslims do not eat pork, only the irrational object to others doing as much; I've also known a good number from both faiths who are not fully observant and (gasp!) even enjoy bacon. As far as Buddhists and Hindus go, not all object to pork (or meat altogether) either. In fact, I was raised with Buddhism and know of many on that path who have no objection to meat products either (especially given that most lay Buddhists understand that by accepting that animal's huge sacrifice and honoring it, you are helping that animal continue to burn karma and move along through its lives). Did you know that some Hindu groups even allow the eating of beef?
One can be omnivorous and still care about animal welfare and the environment. So who is this "us"? I know I will not change my own dining-out habits because a restaurant serves meat or because the chef happens to be tattooed. I will, however, refuse to eat at places that cater to those who feel the need to attack others in such childish manners.
