News, July 1: “Replanting Charred Land”
Meddling Humans
Here we humans go again! Another grandiose Humanist scheme: to stick seedlings in burned, sterilized soils—in a severe climate change drought, with scorching temperatures.
The sheer magnitude of climate change is upon all living beings, yet in this article there is not one mention of what is happening to the wildlife populations in these forests. It's all about humans all the time—perhaps this is why we are in such a planetary mess?
Where is the water for such schemes? Wildlife are struggling to survive, water is scarce or non-existent—and wild animals must contend with the environmental ravages of livestock grazing, hunting and trapping, which maim and kill thousands of bobcats, lions, coyotes, foxes, prairie dogs, bears, hawks and other life each year.
How about a plan to rid our forests of these destructive human activities to help wildlife, first?

Corrections
In the July 22 news story "Higher Ed Looking Ahead," Kelsey Hennegen's name was misspelled. Further, our cover story "Memory of a River" contained an error about the status of the Buckman Direct Diversion in Santa Fe. The diversion had not stopped drawing water from the Rio Grande. SFR regrets both errors.
