Other local groups
Thank you for displaying the very informative Los Alamos Study Group advertisement prominently. Readers may be interested in checking out the websites of four other local groups also doing excellent work alerting New Mexicans of the moral, economic and environmental dangers of continued nuclear weapons development and manufacture at Los Alamos National Lab.
Founded in 1977, Southwest Research and Information Center (swric.org) offers a Nuclear Waste Program under Don Hancock and a Uranium Impacts Program under Chris Shuey.
Concerned Citizens for Nuclear Safety (nuclearactive.org) has from 1988 promoted environmental protection from radioactive and other hazardous materials especially from WIPP expansion under the leadership of the indefatigable Joni Arends.
Since 1999, Nuclear Watch New Mexico (nukewatch.org) has done research, cultivated congressional staff, engaged in lawsuits, called for transparency and accountability in cleaning up hazardous nuclear weapons-related wastes and maintained an information-packed, accessible website. Jay Coghlan and Scott Kovacs lead.
A local Veterans for Peace chapter organizes demonstrations here in Santa Fe and in Los Alamos itself toward ending preparations for nuclear war.
All nuclear weapons threaten life on earth. Let us support all who work for peace.
