How many people are shot by a gun every day, every month or every year in America? How many in New Mexico, Santa Fe County or in Santa Fe? Who knows, who cares? But one unwitting movie actor accidentally shoots someone and the whole world goes crazy. A perfect example of what is so wrong with our gun crazy and celebrity besotted country.

I have been around and used firearms for most of my life. I was taught, and anyone familiar with a firearm will agree, that the person with the firearm in their hand is responsible to know whether it is loaded or not and where it is pointed.

Four Reasons
I was disheartened to read the article. First, while JoAnne Vigil Coppler did indeed bring up the mayor’s “panties in a twist” comment at the debate, less than a month before the election, she has been trying to no avail...to get this investigated. Second, Vigil Coppler is not the only woman to be offended by Mayor Alan Webber. City Clerk Yolanda Vigil was constantly being called “Clerky, Clerky” in meetings by the mayor. She apparently voiced her unhappiness about this and was fired. Third, who would ever speak up against a mayor who fired the city clerk and the union president? These people, along with Vigil Coppler, are relatively impressive positions that felt the unchecked wrath of the mayor. Fourth, the city attorney said they couldn’t pursue cases against elected officials, but what about the fact that the mayor is also a full-time paid city employee?
