Christmas time is always tough for firefighters because they are away from their families. What most people don’t realize is that call volumes go way up during the holidays and that firefighters are running so many calls on Christmas that many times they have trouble cooking meals, and the stores and restaurants are all closed.
The Kingston residence is a senior living facility in Santa Fe that provides meals to the firefighters during Christmas.
During COVID-19, the Kingston residence had reached out to the Fire Department because many of their residents were isolated and were unable to see their families during the holidays. The Fire Department started doing an annual parade during Christmas where they would play carols and wave to the residents from their windows. This year we were able to actually go in and speak with many of the people at Kingston and the firefighters were able to do some Christmas caroling for them as well.
