Truck Season
Food is a refuge. But it is also cultural. Our lives and our tables would be way less interesting if walls were built between us.
Let's FORK!
The truck is the child of Chef Eliot Chavanne and Connor Black. The soft opening on the 22 will lead the way for the full grand opening on May 26. Look for them in the Meow Wolf parking lot at 1352 Rufina Circle, or at any of the big summer events around town.
Did you know that the Santa Fe Farmer's Market has extensive programs for kids? Local Food for Local Kids is the Institute's relaunched children's outreach program. Starting this June, there are two ways you can get your little ones involved in a healthy relationship with food.
1. On-Demand Field Trips
Offering teachers and youth program facilitators the opportunity to supplement their curriculum while offering a rich, fun Market experience for the youth, on-demand field trips provide:
- Brief introduction to the Market’s history and an informal Q&A
- A farmer to speak on a topic that matches the curriculum
- Age-appropriate scavenger hunt, featuring farmers and seasonal produce
2. Power of Produce Club (POP Club)
An eight-week program that takes place at Tuesday market, Wednesday market and Mercado del Sur, beginning June 20:
- $2 in tokens at every market each youth attends, to purchase their own produce
- Hands-on experiential activities for youth (ages 3-12)
- Two Bite Club incentivizes youth trying new things
Participation will be tracked via a passport—a booklet where youth can draw pictures, track activities and provide insights.
If you'd like to get your child involved or are a teacher interested in including healthy food relationships in your curriculum, contact SFFM Program Director Melissa Willis via email at melissa@farmersmarketinstitute.org or by phone (983-7726 ext. 2).
The Native Treasures Indian Arts Festival is Friday-Sunday May 26-28 at the Santa Fe Convention Center (201 W Marcy St.). Memorial Day is coming up fast y'all. What do you do for the official start of summer?
