Summer in Santa Fe is a reliably good time, both for sponanteous leisure and with events that have occurred annually for a century alongside brand new ideas and gatherings. Here’s a list to get you started. (And don’t forget the music highlights!)

JUNE

Indigenous Ways Festival: This new event happens every third Wednesday through September. Tonight, find art and community gathering before opening act Ailani Swentzell, a songwriter from Santa Clara Pueblo, followed by Sihasin, a duo with a traditional Navajo backbone plus folk, rock, pop and punk elements. Find it in the Santa Fe Railyard Park, 5-8 pm. Free.

Currents New Media Festival: The festival’s lucky 13th year as an international new media exhibition expands citywide, including locations at the Santa Fe County Fairgrounds, the Center for Contemporary Art (CCA), the Currents 826 gallery space, form & concept and SITE Santa Fe.

Rodeo de Santa Fe: Ranch sports like mutton bustin’, barrel racin’, ropin’ and the like take over the Santa Fe County Fairgrounds, along with carnival food and nightly entertainment. Gates open at 5 pm. Tickets: $17 for adults; $10 for kids.

Santa Fe Pride: Pride on the Plaza kicks off with a parade, then booths, food and fun for the afternoon. Show support and love for the city’s LGBTQ community from 11 am to 4 pm. Free.

JULY

1 - Aug. 27

Santa Fe Opera: Splurging for seats this season might feel extra special in its triumphant return after a pandemic slowdown. This year’s shows are: Carmen, The Barber of Seville, Falstaff, Tristan and Isolde, and M. Butterfly. Season runs through Aug. 27.

International Folk Art Market: Museum Hill is filled to the brim with artists from across the globe. The 2022 cohort of artists represent 48 countries, including two new to IFAM: Finland and The Russian Federation. Tickets $15-30.

Indigenous Ways Festival: Another chance to attend workshops on sign language and wood flute as well as other creative opportunities in the Santa Fe Railyard. Witness award-winning female beat boxer Ashley (Saywut) Moyer, followed by D’DAT, 5-8 pm. Free.

Half Broke Horses at the Botanical Garden: At presstime, the first concert in this summer’s Sunset Concert Series was already sold out. Advance tickets are on sale for this show. 6-8 pm. Tickets $7.

Shakespeare in the Garden: The Comedy of Errors opens July 28 with performances through Aug. 14 at the Santa Fe Botanical Garden.

Best of Santa Fe Party: Your best friends at SFR return to the Railyard for our Best of Santa Fe Party, celebrating winners of the annual readers poll with booths, fun, food, drink, a live Beatles tribute and more. 5-9 pm. Free.

Spanish Market: The Spanish Colonial Arts Society presents this celebration of local traditional arts on the Plaza. Free.

AUGUST

Indigenous Ways Festival: Find an Axle Contemporary Mobile Artspace exhibition from Jason Garcia and Vicente Telles, plus songs, face painting, dance and more. Entertainment from heavy metal musician Sage Bond and guitar and flute player Keith Secola (Anishinabe) in the Railyard from 5-8 pm. Free

Indian Market: South-western Association for Indian Arts presents the annual outdoor market on the Plaza, with ancillary events including the Indigenous Fashion Show.

Burning of Zozobra: Destroy your gloom with a giant puppet at Fort Marcy and help Kiwanis help the kids with tickets that go on sale July 4.
