With nearly 2 million pageviews on our website every year, the Reporter's most-read online stories cover a range of topics we know our audience is looking for. From food to housing to local politics and personalities, here are the stories web readers viewed most during 2018.
Restaurant Guide
SFR's annual Restaurant Guide is consistently one of the most-read features of the year. Tour the plates of 35 of the region's best places to eat. Check out 2018's guide, and stay tuned for 2019's in October.
Enemy of the People
Anson Stevens-Bollen
"For over a year, federal prosecutors and agents have perused my digital communications, tried to hack my cell phone and possibly collected my social media records. The chill of seeing the state in possession of your private political discussions is difficult to convey. I'm not being paranoid; this really happened. The feds invaded my life in pursuit of their own conspiracy theory about a raucous protest in Washington, DC, that resulted in eight felony charges against hundreds, myself included," SFR staff writer Aaron Cantu shares in an essay following the dismissal of the charges he, along with dozens of other journalists, picked up the day President Donald Trump was inaugurated, an incident known now as #J20.
Live in a Shed for $600
No single story better encapsulated Santa Fe's housing crisis than this one on a dude who tried to rent his garden shed, but only to someone who was a "minimum drinker," and practices "meditation/mindfulness/contemplative" daily. But turns out, that's illegal. The city kindly asked him to remove the post.
The Legend of Fenn’s Gold
It's been eight years since the famed Santa Fe art dealer published his autobiography, The Thrill of the Chase, and invited people to look for what he says is a chest full of gold and jewels hidden for the taking. At least three treasure hunters have died trying.
Our Q and A with Forrest Fenn tells treasure seekers what we know, what we don't know and what we think we might know.
Primary Election
Anson Stevens-Bollen
The inauguration of a new governor and the swearing in and re-swearing in of a host of other officials will happen on Jan. 1. As voters this fall worked their way through campaign flyers, robo calls, debates and the like, they also turned to SFR's endorsement issue to see how we rated the candidates. Keep in mind that we're not trying to predict the winners. (Although lots of our picks won!)
The rest of our election coverage is still in one place, so if you want to relive those moments, voila!
