Santa Fe area police have shot a second person this week.
New Mexico State Police said this afternoon they are now investigating a case in which Santa Fe Sheriff's Department deputies shot a man Tuesday at a home near Pojoaque after responding to a call for help in a domestic dispute. The shooting comes on the heels of an officer from the Santa Fe Police Department wounding a suspect Sunday night.
In Tuesday's incident, the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office received a report that a man "was irate with a family member and was armed with two knives in the residence" around 11:30 pm, according to State Police.
"When deputies arrived, they contacted the male individual inside the residence who was still armed with the knives," the news release reads. "At some point during the encounter, a Santa Fe County Deputy fired his duty weapon at the male, striking him. After the incident, deputies provided medical aid to the individual until the ambulance arrived. The male was transported to an area hospital where he is currently in ICU."
The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau will interview the deputy who fired weapon, but has not released the man's name. A spokesman for the county sheriff said the deputy is on administrative leave pending the state investigation.
Santa Fe Police shot a man Sunday night. The man had been confronted by employees of a store on St. Michael's Drive who accused him of shoplifting. State Police say he wounded two employees with a machete.
